With the modern and fast-paced life, stress has become the main feature of our lives; the health hazards of stress, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, as well as mental illnesses like depression and anxiety, are well known.
Methods to reduce stress is a rich topic to discuss among health professionals and lay individuals. As a result, a lot of products and strategies were introduced to induce relaxation.
Music, visualisation, Yoga, massage and various ways of mindfulness and meditation are heavily advertised and can be expensive.
Recent research found a method of mindfulness that is productive and less costly is knitting. Observing the yarn, its texture, colour and the way it weaves across the sticks is proven to be a successful mindfulness strategy.
Moreover, knitting has the advantage of being portable and quiet and can be done in many settings both indoors and outdoors.
It can also be done during active or passive time. One of the main advantages of knitting is that the materials, yarn and needles, are relatively inexpensive.
The greatest point about knitting is that it yields a tangible product that is relaxing and rewarding.
