Who Might Need an ASD assessment?
Autism assessments can help people of all ages—children, teens, and adults—who are experiencing challenges with learning, focus, behavior, or social interactions. What is the referral process?
- Book an initial intake session (50 minutes).
The first step in our referral process is to book an initial intake session. This session gives our psychologists the opportunity to meet with you, gather developmental history, and, where appropriate, conduct preliminary screening to determine whether further assessments may be beneficial and which ones are most suitable. Proceeding with an assessment can be a investment, so we aim to ensure that you receive a meaningful and beneficial experience, along with clear and valuable outcomes.
Following the intake session, our psychologist will help you decide on which assessment package would be recommended and assessments sessions can then be booked.
Notes on Medicare rebates:
If you are under 25 years of age, you may be eligible for a Medicare referral, which allows you to access Medicare rebates. Referrals can only be provided by a paediatrician or psychiatrist. The relevant referral item code is 82000, and Medicare rebates will be processed at the time of your appointment with a valid referral.
Assessment Structure
They usually involve a combination of interviews, questionaires or tasks designed to understand how the brain processes information. It’s not a test you pass or fail—it’s a way to learn more about a person’s strengths and challenges. Afterward, you’ll receive a detailed report and recommendations to support wellbeing and development.

Assessment Fees:
Assessment fees vary depending on the type of assessment needed. Costs are outlined on a per-session basis, with an additional fee for the preparation of a comprehensive final report. Consultation fees are due prior to each appointment, and the report fee is payable before the psychologist releases the report.
Medicare Rebate:
In specific situations, you may qualify for a Medicare rebate for ASD Assessments. This necessitates an initial referral from your paediatrician, or psychiatrist, which must be presented before your first consultation.
