Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (Group Program)
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based psychological group program that integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Mindfulness Meditation. MBCT was designed to help individuals vulnerable to, or who have experienced, recurrent depressive episodes.
MBCT focuses on helping individuals develop a different relationship with their thoughts and emotions. Rather than trying to change or challenge thoughts, participants learn to notice them as passing mental events. This approach supports people to step out of automatic patterns such as rumination, worry, and self-criticism, and instead respond with greater awareness, balance, and self-compassion.
Who is MBCT for?
MBCT is particularly for those who:
- Have experienced recurrent episodes of depression.
- Notice patterns of rumination (getting “stuck in your head”), overthink, worry or mentally replay past events.
- Experience automatic negative thoughts or self-criticism.
- Are seeking a structured, evidence-based approach to long-term wellbeing.
- Individuals experience mild to moderate depressive symptoms.
Program Structure
Delivered as a structured program, MBCT typically involves weekly group sessions alongside guided home practice. Through mindfulness exercises, reflection, and gentle skill-building, participants learn practical strategies to manage difficult emotions, recognise early warning signs of distress, and build long-term resilience. The program is grounded in a strong evidence base as an effective approach for supporting mental health and preventing relapse.

Initial Consultation
Initial Consultation
Prior to joining the program, participants attend a one-on-one assessment session with Dylan D’Arcy (Director and Clinical Psychologist). This initial consultation is an important part of the intake process and helps determine whether the program is clinically appropriate for your current needs and goals. It also supports the development of a cohesive and therapeutically effective group environment.
Where applicable, this appointment may also be claimed under a Mental Health Care Plan.
Medicare & Referral Pathway
Participation in the MBCT program may be eligible for Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Care Plan. To access these rebates, you will need a referral from your GP or psychiatrist confirming your eligibility for psychological treatment.
As part of the referral pathway, participants first attend an individual assessment session with Dylan D’Arcy. This session is used to assess suitability for the program, clarify treatment goals, and ensure that MBCT is an appropriate fit for your needs. Where applicable, this appointment may also be claimed under a Mental Health Care Plan.
If the program is suitable, you may then be offered a place in the next available MBCT group. Group sessions delivered by a clinical psychologist may be claimable under Medicare, with rebates applied per session. Fees, rebates, and out-of-pocket costs can vary depending on your circumstances, and further information can be provided during the intake process.
