Puya Mehman Pazir

Psychologist – BA (Music Performance), GradDip (Music Composition), GradDipPsych, MAPS

Puya Mehman Pazir has a diverse educational background, having completed a Bachelor of Music Performance, a Graduate Diploma of Music Composition, a Graduate Diploma of Psychology (with honours), and a Master of Professional Psychology. He is currently pursuing a Master of Clinical Psychology to further enhance his skills and knowledge.

 

Puya’s passion for helping others led him to transition from teaching music and coaching basketball to a career in psychology. After completing an honours degree in Psychology, he began working as a provisional psychologist in regional and low socioeconomic areas in Victoria. His goal has always been to understand and support his clients better, which motivated him to complete a Master of Professional Psychology degree.
Puya’s approach to psychology is holistic and integrative. He draws on principles from philosophy, the arts, physical practices, and mindfulness techniques to connect deeply with his clients and build strong therapeutic relationships. He believes in fostering open discussions about his clients’ concerns and uses his personal experiences and formal training to help clients develop personalised plans and strategies. He is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Schema Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

 

Puya also conducts a variety of psychological tests to better understand his clients’ mental health and provide accurate diagnoses. These include cognitive ability and intelligence tests like the WISC and WAIS, personality assessments like the PAI, and autism evaluations such as the ADOS-2. This comprehensive approach ensures that clients receive well-informed and effective treatment plans tailored to their needs.
